1. Admission
Parents and guardians will be required to provide and where necessary complete the following information:
i. Medical certificate – A psychological/Psychiatric assessment (not older than 3 months) at the discretion of the screening community.
ii. Indemnity forms as required from time to time;
A three months assessment/ evaluation will be applicable before acceptance of a resident. The purchase of the Life Rights to a room at North Bay Lodge can only be considered after acceptance as a resident.
2. Disability Grant
i. Parents/Grantors will need to apply for a Disability Grant with SASSA where applicable. North Bay Lodge will assist Parents/Grantors with the application process where possible.
ii. If requested the said Disability Grant will be transferred to North Bay Lodge.
3. Pocket money/ Toiletries
i. Pocket money should be deposited in the specified North Bay Lodge Pocket Money account, with clear reference of the residents name on the statement. Where residents are not capable of keeping their cash, this must be handed over to the manager for safe keeping.
ii. Residents are assisted with budgeting, preparing shopping lists and shopping for their personal effects.
iii. It is encouraged that Family/Grantors open residents own bank accounts (where possible) to encourage independence and money management.
iv. Family/ Grantors to ensure resident has their necessary monthly toiletries available for their resident i.e., toothpaste, soap, roll-on, shampoo, toothbrush, deodorant etc.
4. Clothing
i. Parents or Grantors to provide adequate clothing for residents.
ii. Each item of clothing needs to be properly marked on the inside of the garment.
iii. Parents to check and manage that resident has the necessary clothing for the seasons and to replace clothes from time to time.
5. Laundry
i. On a daily basis, clothing will be sent to the laundry on the premises for laundering.
ii. Cleaned laundry will be ironed and distributed for packing in resident’s cupboard.
iii. Bed linen is changed and laundered on a weekly basis.
6. Radios / TV sets, etc.
i. The main lounge and reception has a flat screen TV set with a DSTV service.
ii. Residents may bring their own radios and TV sets for their rooms. The Manager must be notified in advance if any electronic item is being installed in the resident’s room. North Bay Lodge is not responsible for the upkeep or management of these equipment, installations and functioning of these equipment.
iii. Parents/Trustees are responsible for license’s, insurances and repairs.
iv. Residents will be encouraged to make use of the communal TV to encourage socialization.
7. Visits
i. Parents/Grantors are encouraged to keep contact with their resident by phone calls or personal visits.
ii. Visits with residents during the weekend are encouraged. It is preferable that visitors make prior arrangements with the Care Workers/ Manager regarding visits. Visitors to announce themselves at reception first to enable the necessary Covid screening and completion of Visitors register.
iii. Family/Grantors are encouraged to take residents on home visits during the holidays and long weekends. North Bay Lodge will remain open all year round to cater for those without family members or those whose family live abroad. Parents, relatives, friends are welcome to visit residents at the Home with the prior approval of the Grantor and notification to North Bay Lodge.
8. Medical / Dental Care
i. Parents/guardians to complete full medical care information on admission of the resident.
ii. In the event a resident needs medical attention, Parent/Grantor will need to take resident to the consulting room of medical practitioner of their choice.
iii. Where the Grantor is unable to take resident for their medical appointment, North Bay Lodge will assist. A competent carer will accompany the resident with North Bay Lodge. transport to the referred doctor/ hospital for treatment. Pls refer point vi below.
iv. Private practitioners should send accounts directly to Parents/Guardians/Trust Funds for settlement.
v. Residents on a Disability Grant currently qualify for state aided medical treatment at the Addington Hospital. Should Parents/Guardians prefer treatment at the Addington Hospital, a carer will accompany resident to Addington Hospital if and when required.
vi. Grantors will be responsible for transport costs and carer accompaniment for each appointment.
9. Special Diets
Special diets, where practically possible, will be adhered to.
10. Levies / Fees
i. Prescribed levies/fees are to be paid in advance on the first day of each calendar month.
ii. No reduction is possible for weekends and holidays away from North Bay Lodge.
iii. Fees are normally reviewed on an annual basis but should the need arise; an interim increase may be necessary.
iv. Overdue fees will attract interest as is communicated by North Bay Lodge.
11. Hair, Nails and Weight Care
i. On a monthly basis a Foot Care Therapist will be available at the Centre. This service is for the residents cost individually (those that use the service).
ii. Weight care management is done by North Bay Lodge in conjunction with the consulting Primary Health Care sister.
iii. Blood Sugar management is also done at North Bay Lodge in conjunction with the Primary Care sister present.
iv. Residents may choose hairdressers of their choice which is for their own cost
12. Entertainment/Facilities
i. Residents will have the opportunity to use facility’s board games, books, puzzles, creativity tools and any other recreation equipment available. They are allowed use of the outside North Bay Lodge grounds for walks, exercises and the swimming pool facility.
ii. Resident may also be taken on outings e.g. picnics, flea markets etc. when possible
iii. North Bay Lodge will try to arrange Theme Days for the residents in keeping with the National events calendar i.e., Valentine’s Day, Spring Day, Braai Day, Party Day
13. Attendance at Church Services
i. Residents will be encouraged to participate in religious activities.
ii. Weekly Bible studies onsite are co-ordinated with the nearby church members.
iii. Residents attend a nearby Church when possible – transport is provided by the Church Ladies Fellowship once a month.
14. Pets
No pets will be allowed on the premises.
15. Life Skills
i. Residents will be encouraged and supervised to perform certain chores and duties as part of the life skills program.
ii. The third year Occupational Therapy Students from the local University offer their services to the residents annually for a short period in the year.
16. Security
Residents who have been out of the Centre for a day or weekend are required to return to the Centre by 7 pm.
17. Intoxicating Liquor/Recreational Drugs
Under no circumstances may intoxicating liquor or recreational drugs (e.g. marijuana etc.) be brought onto the premises by care workers and/or the residents of North Bay Lodge. The possession or use thereof will lead to disciplinary action and could result in the guilty party being suspended and ultimately expelled from North Bay Lodge.
ROOM REGULATIONS, UPGRADING AND MAINTENANCE
18. Electrical appliances
Residents will only be allowed the following Electrical Appliances in their rooms:
i. One Hi-Fi system or combined radio/tape CD.
ii. One TV set on wall mounted stand or TV stand Electrical appliances continued.
iii. Only a bar fridge is permitted in the room.
iv. One bedside lampshade, preferably wall mounted.
v. Fans – only ceiling fans are allowed. No stand alone fans.
vi. There should be no alterations with the rooms sprinklers or electrical components without prior consultation with management of North Bay Lodge.
19. Furniture
The room is equipped with a built-in cupboard. The occupant is required to provide:
i. Single or ¾ bed OR a standard medical bed, the manager would need to be notified if special beds are to be required depending on the disability.
ii. A wall unit or desk brought in should not exceed 1.2 meters in size OR standardized computer stand.
iii. 1 bedside pedestal (if required).
iv. 1 chair/stool is allowed.
20. Curtains, Mats/Rugs, Bins
i. The grantor will supply curtains or blinds of their choice.
ii. Only 2 rugs are allowed, carpeting/tiling is done at Grantors cost.
iii. One standard waste paper bin is allowed.
21. Pictures
i. The occupant will not be allowed to use tape, press stick or glue to mount pictures.
ii. The Grantor will need to provide a Notice board for residents to mount pictures or if holes are made in the wall, these must be repaired by the Grantor.
22. Linen
i. Parents/Grantors are required to provide two sets of bed linen, sheets, pillow cases, duvets, and /or blankets.
ii. Parents/Grantors to ensure linen is replaced when worn out.
23. Storage
i. The rooms are not large and “clutter” should be avoided to facilitate ease of cleaning the room.
ii. No seasonal items will be required to be removed from the Centre.
24. Food / Beverages
i. Food and beverages may be kept in room provided it is kept in air tight storage containers .
ii. No food preparation is allowed in the room.
iii. Meals (Lunch & dinners) are to be eaten in the dining hall unless the resident is bed bound and in-capacitated.
25. Cleanliness & Appearance of room
i. Grantor/Family to ensure residents rooms always look presentable. Reasonably frequent check of walls, ceiling, cupboards, doors, bathroom, floors to be undertaken by the Grantor/Family to ensure the room is at the required standard.
ii. Should North Bay Lodge undertake painting or repair in a room to bring it to the required standard, such cost will be passed on to the Grantor/Family.
26. Medication
i. As per Department of Health regulations, all household and nonprescription medication would be stored in, and administered from the Medical Room.
ii. Grantor will ensure an updated medicine script is given to North Bay Lodge and the necessary, scripted medication is available timeously for administering and dispensing.
iii. All residents to fully comply with taking their medication as and when prescribed by their medical practitioner.
27. Smoking
i. No smoking is allowed in the bedrooms or enclosed areas of the North Bay Lodge building.
ii. Only the Designated Areas may be used for smoking.
iii. Cigarette butts to be disposed of in the allotted bins provided in yard & courtyard.
28. Cupboard Keys
i. The residents are allowed one set of cupboard keys.
ii. The replacement of lost cupboard keys would be for the cost of the Grantor.
iii. Repair and replacement of fixtures i.e., cupboards, doors, handles is for the cost of the Grantor/Family.
29. Locks
i. The room is fitted with a standard lock. Master keys are available, residents are not allowed to change the locks.
ii. The room is only allowed to be locked when the resident is not in the room.
30. Repair and Maintenance
i. The incidental and annual maintenance of the communal and access passages to the individual blocks will be carried out by North Bay Lodge.
ii. Ongoing upgrading and repair to the room and any en-suite facility would need to be carried out by the Grantor with prior advises to North Bay Lodge management of the work and scope of work to be undertaken.
iii. Any repairs to the individual en-suite roof will be for the account of the occupant/s of the respective rooms using that facility.
Management will carry out regular inspections of each room and en-suite facility.
Grantors will be informed of any non-adherence to the above requirements.
The Rules are implemented to ensure that a standard of neatness and hygiene prevails and that North Bay Lodge meets with various Department Regulations.
